In the clip, Bush Hager appears to be playing an announcer introducing the Chiefs, possibly before a game. She begins saying, “Ladies and gentlemen…,” before the audio was abruptly cut.
“Oh, don’t play it! You’re not allowed to play, don’t play the noise!” Bush Hager exclaimed as the clip began playing.
They swiftly moved on from the awkward moment as she continued sharing about how her day with the Kansas City Chiefs went.
“I was in Kansas City, it was so hot, like the hottest day in the last three years, and we were filming a Christmas movie which got me excited for Christmas,” she explained. She added that she also shared a scene with Chiefs coach Andy Reid and she got to meet Donna Kelce, the mother of NFL stars Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce, who will also be making a cameo in the Hallmark film.
“Mama Kelce has a cameo, yes she does. It’s a real to-do,” Bush Hager said. “I think people are gonna flock to this Hallmark film. They say there are two types of people in life, those who watch Hallmark films and those who are liars.”
The film follows Alana Higman (Hunter King) after she enters her family of Chiefs superfans into the team’s ‘Fan of the Year’ contest. But as she and the team’s director of fan engagement, Derrick (Tyler Hynes), begin spending more time together, it’s clear there’s a spark between them. But when her grandfather loses his good luck Chiefs hat, Alana begins to doubt everything she believed about fate, destiny and even questions her future with Derrick – unless, that is, a little Christmas magic can throw a Hail Mary.
It appears that Bush Hager also took some of the Today crew with her to Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, which means viewers will be getting an inside look at the film. But Bush Hager seems intent on keeping her role under wraps.
In a segment aired earlier that morning on Today, Bush Hager said, “I can’t tell you too much about my part, but I did get to star with some Chiefs players and, of course, the film’s amazing stars, who were so gracious.”
She added, “I was nervous taking the script out to the Today set, because my colleagues try to get things out of me constantly.”
A premiere date for Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story has not yet been announced, but it is set to premiere during Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas event during the holidays.
Today with Hoda & Jenna airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
