Patrick Mahomes recalls advice he gave to Travis Kelce amid pursuit of Taylor Swift as Chiefs QB claims to be the couple’s ‘matchmaker’
Not only does Patrick Mahomes throw touchdown passes, but it turns out he fires arrows like cupid, too.
During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Mahomes revealed the crucial role he played in setting Kansas City Chiefs teammate Travis Kelce up with Taylor Swift when they attended one of the popstar’s concerts together.
Kelce and Swift have enjoyed a whirlwind romance over the past year, with the loved-up pair going from strength to strength ever since they went public with their relationship in September.
The singer and songwriter jetted thousands of miles across the US to watch her man in action for Kansas City last season – making it all the way from Tokyo to Las Vegas in time for the Super Bowl in February – while Travis has also been at several Eras Tour concerts.
Yet according to Mahomes, the celebrity power-couple would not be together had he not invited Kelce to Swift’s concert last year.
‘We enjoy it, it’s been a fun run,’ the Chiefs quarterback told McAfee about his teammate’s high-profile relationship.
‘I like to take some of the credit [because] I was the one who invited Travis to the first Taylor concert when the friendship bracelet was [given].
‘He was sitting in my suite, so I feel like I was the matchmaker.’
Mahomes also shed light on the words of advice he gave to Kelce amid his pursuit of his future girlfriend.
‘I had some input in there as well and was like, “Dude just go for it, just go for it.”
‘And you know Travis man… he does it and he’s a great dude, and I’m glad it’s all worked out for the best.’
Kelce famously revealed on his New Heights podcast last year that he made a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it to give to Swift at her Eras Tour concert.
Just months later sparks flew between them, with Swift publicly confirming their romance by rocking up to Arrowhead for the Chiefs’ win over the Chicago Bears in September.
