Patrick Mahomes’ mom Randi says fame has brought ‘hardest seven years of my life’ – despite her Super Bowl-winning son being worth $450m
Randi Mahomes is the mother of a three-time Super Bowl champion in Patrick Jr. and ex-wife to former Major League pitcher, Patrick Sr., so it’s safe to say the 48-year-old is a bit fatigued by celebrity life after two decades.
Randi opened up about her struggles with fame during a recent appearance on ‘The Mom Game’ podcast, where she admitted to envying friends who aren’t related to Patrick Jr., the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, not to mention his brother Jackson, a well-known social media influencer.
‘I look at some of my friends on social media and I’m jealous that they have this normal [life],’ she said. ‘Their kids are the same age as Patrick (28) and Jackson (24), and they have this normal situation and we don’t. It’s super difficult.
‘We just want to be normal and go and have dinner,’ she continued. ‘We don’t do that.’
The problem with her son’s notoriety even persists when she’s working as an event planner – something she’s done for 20 years.
At my work, it’s really hard because 90 percent of my phone calls aren’t about work,’ she said. ‘I still go to work and want to live normal.’
Of course, living normal is a bit of a pipe dream when your eldest son is signed to a $480 million NFL contract.
But while Randi admits to being fortunate, she can’t help but feel overwhelmed by the problems that her family’s fame can bring.
‘As much as I say we’re blessed and Patrick’s living his dream, it has been the hardest seven years of my adult life,’ Randi explained. ‘It’s been really hard to juggle…being proud of him and the hate that you get and the kids get. I can’t even explain how hard it’s been. I’ve cried a lot. I struggle with it.
