A bit of rain cannot stop Tailor Swift show: Travis Kelce, Katy Perry and Rita Ora were among the famous faces supporting Swift at her Eras Tour show in Sydney on Friday
On Friday, the “Love Story” hitmaker, 34, took the stage in Sydney to perform night one of her Eras Tour gig in front of an 81,000-strong crowd at Accor Stadium. However, things got off to a damp start after the stadium floor had to be evacuated due to a nearby lightning strike, as seen in a video posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“Please note, due to weather, show start time has been delayed. Stay undercover until further notice and follow venue screens and staff instructions. Stay safe and remember to be kind to those around you,” the stadium said in a statement before Swift’s performance.
Swift took the stage just after 7:50 p.m. local time, according to the Sydney Morning Herald, and her support act Sabrina Carpenter didn’t perform due to the weather delay.
“An Aussie crowd will never let anything get in the way,” Swift told the crowd, per the Sydney Morning Herald.
As usual, the show attracted a star-studded audience, with Katy Perry, Rita Ora, and Taika Waititi were among the guests at Friday’s gig, as seen in a video shared by PopBase on X (formerly known as Twitter). And, of course, Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce was spotted in the audience. Several videos posted on X, showed the Kansas City Chiefs tight end entering the Sydney stadium and cheering on his girlfriend from a VIP tent.
The “Karma” musician, who was joined by Kelce, 34, in Sydney ahead of the shows, will perform at Accor Stadium on Feb. 24, 25, and 26, before heading to Singapore for the Mar. 2 show.
The Sydney gig comes after she performed to her biggest Eras Tour crowd yet last weekend at Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia.
Last Friday, Swift took the stage in front of 96,000 fans, meaning there were more people in the venue than any other concert to date, and she’s had some huge gigs so far, including performing to a 74,000-strong crowd at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey in May.
“This is the biggest show that we have done on this tour or any tour I have ever done,” Swift told the crowd in a clip shared on X.
“That’s the version you get of me tonight, the version that’s completely starstruck by the fact that so many of you wanted to hang out with us on a Friday night in Melbourne,” the “Red” singer added.
