Chiefs star Harrison Butker slammed by Taylor Swift fans after using her lyrics in controversial speech
Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker is receiving an onslaught from Taylor Swift fans for using her lyrics in his controversial commencement speech.
Butker, 28, delivered the speech at Benedictine College on May 11 and was immediately slammed for criticizing women, taking aim at the LGBTQ+ community, and criticizing US President Joe Biden for supporting abortion.
Without naming the 14-time Grammy winner, Butker referenced Swift’s relationship with his teammate Travis Kelce before quoting her 2022 song Bejeweled.
‘As my teammate’s girlfriend says: Familiarity breeds contempt,’ Butker told the graduates. Upon learning about the mention, Swifties quickly jumped on social media to call Butker out for his message.
‘Who’s going to tell Harrison Butker you can’t quote Taylor Swift when being a misogynistic d***head,’ one user wrote on X.
‘Oh, Harrison Butker, I don’t think you grasped the message of the Taylor Swift song you quoted,’ another added. ‘Go listen to all her albums as homework.’
