One of Kansas City Chiefs QB Staunch Rivals put Mahomes above Tom Brady on the list of GOAT hopefuls, surrenders to Patrick Mahomes: “He is the best QB in history”
The discussion about who is the NFL’s Greatest of All Time (GOAT) has no end. Many agree that Tom Brady is number one on the list of candidates; nevertheless, the rise of Patrick Mahomes has renewed the conversation, and now it was the turn of Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Jack Jones to present his case.
It’s normal for Kansas City Chiefs fans to think Mahomes is the GOAT. With three Super Bowl rings on his fingers, an unprecedented media presence, and his unquestionable leadership, the Chiefs quarterback is a natural candidate for the unofficial title.
Many others think Mahomes still has a long way to go to match Tom Brady. In principle, the former New England Patriots quarterback won seven championships, his ability on the field is unrivaled, and he was also an undisputed leader on the two teams he played for.
Jones, for his part, has a different yardstick for measuring quarterbacks. In a video posted on the “Protect the Shield Podcast,” the cornerback explained that his parameters for measuring a quarterback are the running game, passing, and facilitating.
The GOAT, according to Jack Jones
In a short video, Jones said that he hates that Mahomes plays with his direct rival in the AFC West, but he also admitted that he admires him as a rival. “I hate the fact he plays for that team, but it’s like if we’re calling spade of spade, Patrick Mahomes is the greatest quarterback ever, to ever play the game,” said the defender.
As for his metrics for measuring a quarterback, Jones explained that Baltimore Ravens signal-caller Lamar Jackson is the best at running the ball. Brady, for his part, has been the fastest passer the league has seen, but Mahomes would be in a category apart.
“He has the ability to run like Lamar Jackson, and then he passes the ball so efficiently, and then he’s facilitating as far as breaking down,” explained the Raiders DB.
The “Magician” Mahomes
The cornerback did not hide his admiration for the rival quarterback: “What made me believe it is when we played against them boys in KC. When we played against them boys for the Christmas game. Bro, we were up bro, we scored two tubs in seven seconds on defense.”
Even before that game, Jones had already hinted at his respect for Mahomes. In an interview for the Raiders website, the cornerback warned: “It’s Patrick Mahomes we’ve got to stop. The magician. You stop the magician, then the act is over.”
The debate over who is the GOAT will never have a solution that leaves everyone satisfied. If Mahomes manages to maintain his upward trajectory, he will convince many more that he is worthy of the title, just as he already did with one of his top rivals on the gridiron
