‘Shake it off’: Taylor Swift dancer flaunts his own ‘super respectful’ kilt in Edinburgh after claiming he was assured in advance it wasn’t ‘cultural appropriation’
One of Taylor Swift’s backing dancers has posted photographs online of him wearing tartan after being told by a salesman that wearing a kilt is not ‘cultural appropriation’.
Kameron Saunders, from St Louis, Missouri, who is a backing dancer for the 31-year-old singer said he wanted to buy a kilt while visiting Scotland.
Swift was in Edinburgh to play three sold out shows.
The dancer posed in his new red tartan kilt, sporran and waistcoat near Bute House, the official residence of Scotland’s First Minister.
Saunders wrote on Instagram: ‘I’ve always wanted an authentic kilt but I wanted to be super respectful about the culture so prior to purchasing I had an extensive conversation with the salesman who educated me so very wonderfully about kilts, accessories, Scottish history, Scottish last names, tartans, the thistle, etc.
‘He assured me that I could wear this outfit with pride. So that’s what I’m doing!’
His fellow dancer Sydney Moss photographed Saunders posing on the side of the historic street.
Swift’s concerts were attended by more than 220,000 people, with an estimated 73,000 fans at each of the three nights.
Writing on Instagram, the star praised Scottish fans.
She said: ‘Edinburgh!!! You truly blew me away this weekend.
‘Thank you for breaking the all-time attendance record for a stadium show in Scotland 3 times in a row and for all the ways you made us feel right at home. Love you, all 220,000 of you!!!’
Meanwhile, a 64-year-old man has been charged with alleged voyeurism at one of Taylor Swift’s Edinburgh concerts.
Police Scotland said the man was arrested and charged in connection with a voyeurism offence during the concert at Murrayfield Stadium on Saturday.
Superintendent David Happs said: ‘A 64-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with a voyeurism offence committed within Murrayfield during the event on Saturday June 8.
‘He was released on an undertaking to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.’
The American star kicked off the UK leg of her international Eras tour on Friday with the first of three consecutive dates at Murrayfield.
She played to a capacity crowd of almost 73,000 each time, and she told fans that made the gigs the highest attended stadium concerts in Scottish history.
Swift is also due to play further dates in Liverpool, Cardiff, London and Dublin.
